Whoah, that was crazy! I just got done with opening the shop, and I already have a headache. Everything sold so fast. I'm super pissed with Big Cartel, because they oversold all my items, even though I made sure to set up my preferences on the site so that wouldn't happen! I think there's a glitch with their software, and you can be sure they'll be hearing from me about it. I had to issue so many refunds and send apologies, and it makes me sad. I can't take orders anymore before the items are actually sewn because I get really behind, and it's very stressful.

If you're wondering about the Kate top, I'll be putting some in the store soon!

Oh dear, you poor thing! I know that you're not the only person who's had that problem -- little birds had the same thing happen to her a couple of weeks ago. Don't let 'em get to you -- you had a wonderful new-shop-opening and need to celebrate! ;)

Wow, another record sell-out! Congrats on another great shop opening. I have my 'trigger' finger ready for the Kate top when it pops up:)

congrats on selling out!!!! i'm sorry i missed trying for a kate top, i must have one though since it's my namesake! (and it's super cute)
too bad about big cartel, i just opened a shop there and it does seem a bit more glitchy then etsy. (i still kept my etsy shop though)
congrats on being so busy, the website/shop/blog is looking so good!

Oh no! I hope the issue with BigCartel gets resolved! That is frustrating. However, a big congrats once again!

Oh I'm so sorry that Big Cartel oversold your clothing! I hope these issues are resolved soon. I'm wondering if next time you can mention beforehand the available sizes? It certainly isn't an easy transition, but still, so very exciting for you. Now go and enjoy your weekend!

I've heard negative things about Big Cartel that they just aren't as quick as Etsy sometimes when it comes to big sales, like Wiksten, that sell out fast.

and I too love Kate. it's a fun summery top! :)

no worries! i work part-time for accessories manufacturer, and when someone freaks out over something going wrong, they're reminded that it's just accessories - it's supposed to be fun!

Hi there, I'm the owner of Big Cartel, and I'm sorry to hear you've had some problems.

Since we’re using a 3rd party payment processor, PayPal, there’s a delay between the time the payment is made and when we’re notified to reduce the inventory.

There isn't a whole lot we can do to prevent this unfortunately, but we're definitely looking at possible solutions, and we have some tips here.

Some shopping carts remove an item from your inventory when someone adds it to their cart, but we think that would cause even more issues with things being marked "Sold Out" when they're really not.

Anyway, never hesitate to contact us for help with this, or any other glitches you run into.

And I really like that Matt wrote a note of apology and explanation -- that alone will make me recommend Big Cartel if someone is looking for a shopping cart company.

Congratulations on the sell-out. I was ready and waiting at 10:00 (our time) and was happy to add to the basked but I did check e-mail later and saw the refund. That's okay though...I'll try next time.

it's really great that matt apologized and offered help. but, why can't they have something that says "sale pending" and give the buyer a time period (15 minutes) to complete the sale like when you buy concert tickets online?

on etsy, things drop out of your cart while you're completing the transaction and on big cartel they get oversold. either case leads to "heartbreak" for at least one party.

2. i am so sorry that i was out and missed the update.

3. i had the same problem with big cartel. i didn't realize until now that you had switched or i would have warned you! my last update *everything* was oversold, some things two or three times. it was an incredible headache for me! i don't know that i'll be able to continue with big cartel for my big updates...currently i'm just putting things in unannounced to avoid the problem.
