black sandals

I've been spending an embarrassing amount of time searching for the perfect black sandals. I want something that's good quality and very simple yet not boring.

A.P.C. Madras, available at Zoe
Good price. Nice, but maybe a little too boring? There's nothing much to them.

I think these are pretty cool, but shipping to the U.S. is $70! Ridiculous.

Coclico, on sale (but still a little pricey)
I think these are a good alternative to the gladiator trend. I like the idea of gladiator sandals, but I think many styles can be unflattering. I don't think these would be, plus they're simple but unique.

These are cute. But I already bought them in red last summer. They are cheap though!

Which ones are your favorites?

I like the first pair. I don't think they're boring. I think they're lovely and spare, which is nice in a sandal. I do like the Saltwater Sandals, but if you already have them in red I say branch out!

jenny, i had the same problem last month and was wavering between the madras and the saltwaters.

but, in true fashion, i decided to go with an even more expensive option: custom made sandals from sara barner.

i say get the madras sandals. they'll probably go with more outfits than the saltwaters.

I like the first ones best and the last ones second best. I love barely there sandals like the Madras ones -- they feel so nice. I think the strap crossing over the top from ankle to mid-foot adds a little interest.

Hey Jenny, I like #1 since they're really simple. I bought a pair of black sandals from Target a few months ago and they're comfy + cheap. http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/sr=/qid=/ref=br_1_br_1_3/601-2157251-2919329?ie=UTF8&node=13834201&frombrowse=1&asin=B0012OHUKG&rh=tgt%5F2%3ABlack&page=1

I love Saltwaters, but think #1 could go dressier than the SW.

But surprisingly I like #3...and they look really comfy.

Ha! I'm no help at all!!

I have to agree with everyone so far, I love the Madras pair. Also I thought this might interest you but.. they don't come in black *sigh*.

I like #1. I am all about simple.

You could also check the ones Alyson from Unruly Things bought. I like those a lot.

I am lucky and wearing natural leather sandals my mom bought for me while at home in Europe this spring.

I remember seeing the K Jacques in white, on the most gorgeous model in the most gorgeous dress a year or two back. I'm still smitten so I'd go for the K Jacques. I think they'd look good in any colour. My own pair (in another style) I bought some years back still look the same as when I bought them. They stand the test of time.

i went through this a few weeks ago and believe it or not stumbled upon a pair of birkenstocks (of all things!) at a local shop. they are not the basic style that you automatically associate with the brand, but instead a strappier version that (quite surprisingly!) looks cute with dresses and skirts without feeling too granola.

I actually don't like the first pair. I am all about simple are pretty boring. The straps look like a black shoelace. They're just kinda, I don't know...eh.
I would also check out Anthropologie, as their website had some nice sandals. What about the black gladiators that APC has out? They went on sale everywhere. I got mine shipped to me from their L.A. store and they ended up being a lot cheaper than anywhere I saw online.
As for the Saltwaters, I would say no if you already have them in red.
Other good sites to check out: OakNYC, Shopbird, and Urban Outfitters. UO has a few higher end brands that they sell, like Matt Bernson and LD Tuttle and their stuff is pretty cute.
Good luck!

I like the first pair the best. They can be dressy or casual and they are super cute! My second choice would be the saltwater as seems to be most everyone else's opinion however they are not as easy to go dressy in

Hi - i have the first pair :) //malexhose.blogspot.com/2008/06/new-shoes.html

and honestly the most comfy pair of sandals I've ever worn... also good for me - I have short feet (no really, a bit of a shame as I'm 5ft 10in!!) and can't wear a sandal with a t bar... they just fall off!!

go on - go the way of madras sandal :)

This is a summer of sandal dilemas for me as well! I LOVE the Coclico ones! Ahh they look so comfy, but I would have a hard time spending that much on sandals as nyc streets beat sandals up a bit with how much I walk.
Are saltwaters very comfy? I want some but feel weary of how cheap they are!

The saltwaters are cute and classic, but I'm partial to the Coclico pair;)

I like option 1 and 4... The other ones look more confining and less airy with that extra band up the middle for some reason...

All nice though!

hey there, feels i'll be one of the minorities here. i like the K Jacques the most, and think the Coclico looks pretty neat too. salt water always looks good to me. they have the simple and timeless look that makes one feel nostalgic. i'm just not feeling for the Madras, this pair looks kinda cheap to me. besides, Jenny, K Jacques feels more like your style.

best...
