let's makeup

I'm going to get a little girly today and talk about makeup. The picture above is me without a stitch of makeup on. (Sorry for my annoying little smirk in these photos--ever since I got my braces on and off I don't know how to smile naturally for pictures anymore.) Most of the time I don't wear makeup. I'm too lazy, and I just don't care.

This is me with makeup. I only put makeup on for dates with Joe or maybe if I'm going to hang out with friends. So basically once or twice on the weekends. Since I'm so used to not wearing makeup, when I put it on I look like a clown/prostitute to myself. Most of the time I rub half of the makeup off for that reason. I just really like a natural look. Even when I look at these photos I like the one with no makeup the best. But sometimes a girl just needs to look a little polished.

So here's what I use, and I think it has a pretty natural effect (If you're one of my friends and you disagree with this, speak now or forever hold your peace.):

1. Bare Minerals Skin Rev-er Up-er. It allows the makeup go on smoothly.
2. Bare Minerals Foundation in medium. Just a light dusting of this does the trick, and I use it as a concealer too. (Did anyone else see this kind of makeup on QVC a couple of years ago? I was completely fascinated by it, and when the brand came to the Sephora in my mall, I HAD to try it out.)
3. Bare Minerals Well Rested. I put it under and on my eyelids with a concealer brush to wake my eyes up. This is something I need because I ALWAYS look tired.
4. Nars blush in Amour. A rosy glow is so pretty.
5. Bare Minerals Mineral Veil. A light dusting just seals all of the makeup into place.
6. Anastasia Brow Gel. I need this to keep my cuh-razy, unruly eyebrows in place.
7. Makeup Forever Eye Shadow in brown. I use a skinny angled brush to apply this as eyeliner. If you just barely wiggle it along the lash line, you can't even really tell you have eyeliner on.
8. Sephora Atomic Volume Mascara.
9. Nars Lipstick in Mindgame. It gives just a hint of color.

I know that sounds like a lot, but it really doesn't even take ten minutes to apply. What can I say? I'm a girl. I love makeup. Even if I'm too lazy or self-concious to wear it most of the time. It's just too fun to not try it every once in a while.

Damn girl, you look lovely either way. But thanks for the make-up tips. It's nice to know that even your natural beauty needs a tiny boost every now and then.

I know what you mean. Somtimes the extra ten minutes it takes to slap the stuff on just doesn't seem worth it! I really like NARS, too, and I've heard Bare Escentuals rocks, but I recommend Dior HydrAction Deep Hydration Skin Tint SPF 20..I just got some from Sephora and it is THE BEST tinted moisturizer. Feels like nothing is on but your skin looks and feels amazing :)

And, no, I don't own stock in Dior... :P

You definitely have mastered the natural makeup look. Amazing.

I'm obsessed with the Bare Minerals stuff myself. I adore it. Right now, I'm using MAC because I'm out of the good stuff. :)

Great Post!
I'm all natural, too, unless I'm going out to something special. And I'm a Bare Minerals gal as well. I like the idea of the well-rested trick. I use a white eyeliner in the insides of my eyes for that, but sometimes want something more subtle. Something not even I can see. Ha!

I know how you feel. I go all week without makeup, so I feel caked on once I DO wear it. But I love Bare Minerals, so light!

You look gorgeous in both pictures! I don't bother with it most days either but there are those times where it's fun.

Thanks so much for this public service! I used to wear makeup never, but I find that I want to special it up a bit on the rare occasions when I go out. But I forget everything I once learned from teen magazines, and I keep buying cheap stuff since I don't know what is actually worth the money. I am seriously writing this down. You definitely pulled off the natural look.

I'm the same way with makeup...only 1-2/week and it only involves Bare Minerals, eyelash curler and lipgloss. You look good either way!

I've been really curious about the Bare Minerals makeup. I don't wear a lot of makeup and I really hate the way that it feels. I may have to try this stuff out.

Thanks for the makeup tips! I don't think you need to wear any!

You are so lucky to look great without makeup! A natural beauty :) I heart liquid eyeliner so much that I don't think I have had a day without it for years and years. Even just a teeny tiny bit on a Sunday. Otherwise I am just lots of big wavey hair and a ghostface peeking out ;)

you have such lovely skin! so pretty with or without make-up : ) i do love a dab of blusher...i think if i could only have one product that may be the winner. then again i could always pinch my cheeks! i do wear mascara every day but if i didn't work at the post office i'd go totally nude (face-wise of course!)

I am completely comfortable with my natural complexion, but if I do wear makeup (to even it out or to tone down some shine) I use Bare Minerals like you. Love the stuff! My make up bag looks a lot like yours, minus the blush and add a sun screen. I may have to search for your lip color. Looks nice!

i KNEW this would get tons of comments! wow, thanks for sharing your secrets! although, i already went through your stuff in the bathroom while you were sleeping and copied down all the names of the stuff you use. just kidding. how creepy would that be?!

Try laura mercier StickGloss in brown sugar - It's not sticky like a gloss but not dry like a lipstick. Goes on very natural. Got mine at Sephora.

Less is more! Did you all see the report by Environmental Working Group? And did you know that most of what's being sold to us on store shelves has never been tested for safety by the FDA? It's appalling. Check out www.safecosmetics.org. They're doing great work!

Jenny, you have beautiful skin! I'm jealous.

I also love Bare Minerals and wear it every day...but hate their brushes. Everyday Minerals, another mineral makeup company, makes beautiful, exceptionally soft brushes that work well with the BM products and are very reasonably priced. Fun post!

ooo i love nars lipstick! I use the same one!

i was just thinking about trying bare minerals as i was laying in bed the other night. i think i will - even your makeup picture looks so bare and beautiful to me. you are lucky to look so great either way! i never wear much makeup but am probably to the point where i should take a little more care...

You look great even with no makeup on.
I'm lazy and just apply moisturiser, eye cream and concealer most mornings.
I'm going to look into Bare Minerals as well.

wow you look great w/ no makeup! i'm a little late to this post. but does anyone know if bare minerals is supposed to be good for sensitive skin? i feel like my skin needs a therapist sometimes.... i never know what to do. i rely on my sister to tell me.

I use bare minerals too! It's powder so I didn't think it would cover anything up, but it covers better than liquid foundation! I'm totally going to try the Anastasia Brow Gel cause I don't like wearing a lot of make up either and it would be nice to get a good brow shape without having to use a pencil.

bare or with make up i think you look great either way. i'm with you there, i'm the one who rarely where any make up on my face, i just can be bothered at times!

You are one of the prettiest 'real' girls I've ever seen! Thanks for sharing your make-up tips! I really like bare minerals but use another brand as well because their foundation comes in much lighter shades than bm's - I'm supersuperfair - and they don't use bismuth as bm does (it can irritate your skin). That said - I bought "well rested" right after I read your post! :)

You are a lucky girl. I have braved the no-makeup arena before, because to be honest, I get really really tired of putting on makeup every day. I hate the time it takes, but even more, I hate feeling like I "need" to wear it.
But, on those days when I've "dared to go bare"...the inevitable happens... People right and left are like, WOW! you look TIRED today. Gosh, I love that (sarcasm)...
So, until my next lifetime when I better be born without genetic circles under my eyes, thanks for the natural makeup recommendations. :)

You have that perfect peaches and cream complexion that does not need anything but an occasional lip gloss or, for really special occasions, lip gloss and mascara. Sigh... wish my skin would look this way more often. BTW... you should try out alima cosmetics. I did use Bare Minerals until it started to make my skin break out (due to one of their not so natural ingredients). Their foundation is light in weight and feels better than Bare too! I was very pleasantly surprised! Plus their samples are only 1.00 and last a long time! Anyway... that was my Alima rant.

Keep up the great work!
