Originally I had wanted to share all of my sketches on this blog, but then when I looked at them I realized they might be a little too personal. Showing my sketchbook to others is always somewhat embarrassing to me. I don't know why. Maybe for the same reason that reading through my high school and college journals makes me cringe. The poems and sketches seem silly to me now. Sheesh, when did I become a grown up, all unimaginative and critical? I could never write a poem now. I would feel really stupid.

Anyways, this fall collection was the first one where I really had to get sketches together to show other people because I was collaborating with Elly. I made a page for each design and wrote notes (sometimes silly) to Elly to communicate my design and styling ideas. And then we talked on the phone for hours about it. So here's one of those pages, pictured above. As you can see, my designs often turn into something completely different. Sometimes they take on a life of their own. This dress ended up becoming the Hemställe Top.

So beautiful! I always love seeing other designers/artists/craftspeople's sketchbook pages. Perhaps because they are so personal, and a peek into the imagination of that person, and what makes them tick, inspires them, and how a project develops. I always get such a thrill out of seeing that! :) And the notes--I totally do that in my sketchbooks too!!! :D Sometimes they're quite odd bits of lyrics, to-do lists, and such scattered around outfit ideas. hehe.

so sad that i missed the sale, yesterday was so hectic at work....i agree that there's something so personal about sketches or doodles. it probably explains why i'm so reluctant to workshop research papers. congrats on the daily candy feature!! so many exciting things happening this fall!

i love seeing the difference between an artist's original idea and the final product(see frank ghery's scribbles next to his monumental opera house). your sketches are just what i thought they would look like - simple and sophisticated.you fail to bore me, jenny ;)

Thank you for sharing! I feel the same way about sharing pieces of process. I am such a perfectionist that I don't like people to see things mid-process. I only like to have a grand unveiling and then be modest about it... Its more comfortable that way. I guess high school versions of ourselves are the same thing--part of the process of becoming who we are today.
Your sketches are lovely!

Thanks for sharing! I always feel the same way - even about blogging sometimes - but I love seeing inspiration books/pages like this, so thank you!

also, I nominated you as one of my favorite daily reads in one of these "share the love/nominate five blogs" surveys that go around and around. If you have time/inclination, please do play along!

I am so grateful that you have shown us a small peek into your design process. As others have said, it is so inspiring to see a 'behind the scenes' on some of the final work. I look forward to visiting your blog often in the future.
Cheers.
