japanese knitting books

When I was in Portland recently, I went to a Japanese book store to check out the selection of craft books. I found some lovely knitting books in which the clothing was really inspiring. Don't these photos just make you want to curl up with a cozy knitted wool blanket and a mug of hot chocolate in your very own farmhouse? It's getting colder around here, and I'm dying for some hand-knitted sweaters, blankets, and scarves and handmade corduroy and flannel tops and dresses. Elly and I have already started working on a winter collection of those very things, and it warms my heart just thinking about it. I'll still be selling some items from the fall collection, but it's always fun to work on something new. Cold weather really isn't so bad, you know. It makes my cats curl up on my lap more often, and Joe gets extra cuddly at night.

So excited to see your winter collaboration with Elly! I'd like to make a plug for a gray wool/flannel dress along the lines of the one in the upper right photo...versatile and would go great with your new red stockings.

Have you seen the book "Poetry in Stitches" by Solveig Hisdal? She designs the sweaters for the Norwegian company "Oleana" (named after the Norwegian violin virtuoso Ole Bull who named his failed utopia in Pennsylvania Oleana).

Is it not amazing how the Japanese take things that are so simple and make them look amazing?!!!!

Hi there! I love your blog, and clothing! I was wondering if you remember the name of the Japanese knitting book you took the pictures from? I love those cables, and even though I can't read Japanese I think I could figure out the charts.

:) Thanks for posting such great pictures!!
