leather jacket

leather jacket: GAP
scarf: gift from my dad
top: Forever 21
jeans: J.Crew
shoes: Miz Mooz

I've been looking for a leather jacket for a long time! I loved this girl in hers and this girl in hers. The only problem is that every leather jacket I looked at in the past year was at least $500! Insane. So when I found the perfect gray leather jacket at the Gap for substantially cheaper (but still a little insane), I immediately bought it without a thought. Ok, I admit that I had to go to like five different Gap stores before finding it in my size because it was sold out everywhere. But I finally got my hands on one and tried not to think about it too hard when I handed over my credit card. I had to wait weeks before I could wear it because the weather's been so nice, and then I finally got my chance last weekend. But when I tried it on with different outfits, I suddenly wasn't so sure of myself. Was it me? A leather jacket just seems like something a cool girl would wear, and I'm not so sure I'm very cool. I felt like maybe I was trying too hard. And then I realized perhaps I was over thinking it (like everything else in my life!) and that I should just go with it and try it. So I wore it out last Friday night. And I was stopped by TWO different strangers on the street who complimented me. Score! Yep, I'm keeping it. Fo sho.

Other cheap-ish leather jackets can be found here: Gap, Forever 21, and Urban Outfitters (but I try to avoid Urban because their garments are so overpriced considering the poor quality).

Compliments coming from me too! Been looking for one too but you're right about the price. They can be insanely expensive. I think the Gap has the best quality among the stores in its price range. I saw one at H & M but I don't know...I might go to the Gap instead....cute combo you have there! :)

The Gap really is rallying since Patrick Robinson came on, don't you agree?

that's a nice color and fit. i know what you mean about getting used to a new identity as a leather jacket wearer. i had a black italian one from a thrift store but never wore it because black leather made me feel like i was in the matrix. this grey is so much softer and lovely.

I have been obsessed with that leather jacket from the gap! I was actually telling a coworker about it this morning and how beautiful the color grey is. I'm happy that you have it, its is way too out of my price range.
KEEP IT!

Kansas Citians love their leather jackets, so I'm sure you'll get lots of compliments. I love the gray. You never look like you are trying too hard -- you make style look much easier than it is!

that jacket is great on you. what a score!

i (heart) jcrew jeans. their bootcut fit are the only pants i own that don't gap over my big booty. if you like the matchstick ones, try the matchstick cords (i think they're on sale right now). word from a wise long-time wearer- they CHANGE them slightly every season. it's annoying. a little extra lycra, weird whisker-ing on the thighs (thanks for the extra pounds) so buy a couple pairs if you can.

oh la la, leather jackets! i'm not sure i can pull it off, but it looks great on you!

i do, however, think they're the best things to wear on cold windy wintry days.

I think it looks really nice. I like that it's grey rather than black.

Darling on you... totally love it! Plus, it looks like it's out of stock now, so you're lucky you snatched it up while there were still some left!

Also, I am delurking to ask you what could possibly be a weird question. I live in KC too (in fact, I think we might have a mutual friend or two), and I am wondering if I could get the number of your hairstylist? I finally found someone that I like here, and he just moved away!

I'd really appreciate it, but totally understand if you'd rather not say. :) Thanks!

I went to my friend Megs at headmasters. I made a Daisy Lowe collage. Her hair is super long and slightly more wavy. So now I'm trying to experiment with the natural wave texture in my hair.

Not cool? You?

pshaw.

Love the leather jacket. I've been looking for one myself, but I have no shoulders to speak of, so nothing fits right. Sigh. I'm hoping the thrift gods will provide.....

I just love this whole look. Your leather jacket is perfect on you! I bought a black leather bomber jacket from GAP last year because it was $30 on clearance.. (who can resist?!) and still haven't worn it yet. Like you, I felt like I was trying to be somebody I wasn't so I haven't worn it out. It looks soo biker chick. I'll try to wear it this weekend.. got to get over the insecurities.
FYI: I just love the scarf I got from your shop! Christy is genius! Thanks again!

So cool! So cute! I admire your style and think your outfits are always great. Obviously it's a bit strange to say so since I don't know you, but the way you dress seems very befitting of your personality (as it comes across in your blog). Sorry to gush and hope I don't sound too weird :)

Oh, and did you snap the photo in Anthropoligie? It sort of has their vibe.

That jacket looks perfect on you - I love the cut. I've never bought a leather jacket, but I have quite a few fauxs!

The jacket looks great on you! I loved your comment on Urban Outfitters. I too am a seamstress and I just can't believe their prices, for such shoddy work and fabrics used.

I love your work by the way. My daughter is studying fashion design at CCA in San Francisco Ca. I'll pass your blog on to her so she can see your wonderful studio, and your work :)

Sometimes I feel like...too much when I'm wearing my leather jacket. I don't know what it is! I love it on everyone else but I rarely wear mine. Yours is perfect.

I totally agree with your comment about Urban Outfitters. They have cute stuff, but, apart from their jean selection, I just can't justify paying so much for something so poorly made.

Hey, you are wearing my jacket!

All kidding aside, if you ever pop over to Lawrence and see a dark haired woman wearing your jacket, that's me. Love your designs, love the blog, keep up the good work!
