the hunt

I've been hunting for brown boots, preferably with an ankle strap, for months. It's really a drain on my time because it's so hard to find nice boots in my price range. So I just found out that Habitat is having a 25% off sale today only on regularly priced items. The code you enter at checkout is HOLIDAY25. Then Friday through Sunday you can get 15% off if you use the code HOLIDAY15. Sweet. I'm really considering these or these. Does anybody have these boots and are they flattering on? I might have to head over to the store and try them on first.

A friend of mine has the Frye Riding Boots (or at least they look very similar) and they look really flattering on her. I most definitely complimented her and commented on how cool they were.

I have boots very similar to the riding boot and the lucky boot. The riding boots are more flattering then the shorter pair and I feel like I can wear them with more stuff. The buckles make me feel like they dont match with as much stuff.

Hi! New to your blog. Love your clothing line.

I have the Frye boots. Just got them the other day. They are ridiculously comfy. I think they are really flattering on. The shaft is big enough to go over skinny jeans, and looks super cute with a skirt.

Thanks for sharing your blog. :)

I am partial to the Frye boots - love them actually, and agree that the shorter pair with the buckles are less flexible with outfits. Also not sure about the height of those as it looks mid-calf which might be less flattering.

Love your blog by the way - you have great style and I love the clothing you sew. I have been a fan for a few months now, but this is my first post.

Cheers from a fan in Vancouver, BC!

just to offer the flip side of the coin, i bought the tall paige boots and thought they were not flattering on. it broke my heart. the ankle of the boot is very wide from front to back (you can sort of tell from the picture), and the shaping does nothing to make your calf/foot look graceful. i thought they just looked a little dumpy on. part of the problem may be that i have small feet, so the wide ankle plus the short foot just looks silly.
for the record - i'm a devout frye fan, so i'm not just offering up sour grapes.

The tall ones are very Betty Draper-looking, but the others, with their multiple buckles look daring and dangerous. Either pair in my closet would make me smile. Love the blog. Thanks for letting us all in.

i have been on a similar hunt and will probably end up with the "buck" boot by steve madden, which looks just like the faryl robin and is half the price. i like both shown here, but am personally in the mood for something a little rowdy these days...

Jenny, the Frye Paige boots are comfortable on, but I think you'll get them cheaper at Shopbop if you order today.

Today only Shopbop has 30% of all regular priced purchases, including the Frye Paige boots.

I don't have info on either of those boots but in case you don't get either of those and haven't seen the buckle boots on sundancecatalog.com - they have many, some not on sale and some in the outlet (where they put the sale stuff). I think alot of their stuff eventually goes on sale and a lot of it is not cowboy looking.

what perfect finds. thanks for sharing!

I love the frye paige riding boots and am trying to find a local place (in san diego) to try them on. If you do get to try them in-person, can you let us know how they fit? I've got a skinny calf problem but am seriously considering ordering them.

I bought some aigle riding boots (http://www.equestriancollections.com/itemmatrix.asp?groupcode=AL00016) and they are just perfect. Perfect fit, so comfy, perfect for the winter, too. Also, the børn champlain boot is really brilliant.
=)
Out of the two you posted, i LOVES the frye paige. Tres cute!

I bought these before they went on sale. They're aging beautifully (quickly got that great distressed patina): http://www.revolveclothing.com/DisplayProduct.jsp?product=CORS-WZ53&c=Corso+Como

I have the Camper '45642' Boot and they are very, very comfortable. Maybe a little bit too "euro" and not enough "motorcycle" for what you're looking for...but campers are always very comfortable.

I have been meaning to ask if you have been to this japanese website and if you know if any of the clothes featured can be sent to the united states from the site or another that sells the same brands.

This is the site: https://www.cdcstores.com/

Even if ordering the clothes is not possible, I think you will really like the styles - kind of a peasant chic esthetic.

thanks

I am in love with the J Crew Glenbrae boot, but will wait until they go on sale.

The best most flattering boots ever are the current ones in TOAST..they make your legs look like the go on forever (and I have not so great legs!).. For the record I think the oned on the left would be more flattering as too much detail/buckles can shorten your pins..Good luck with the hunt x

I just looked at the toast boots - very beautiful.

I really want one of the toast dresses, does toast have sales?

I just bought brown boots yesterday! I'm wearing them for the first time right now. Though, I think my budget was even lower than yours. :) I had to settle for Born. I would have loved Frye. But these are quite comfy and practical for me.

i love the boots, never heard of them but now i want them all. i have no idea of your shoes size, but i have bought frye's from the kids section for half the price. i am a 6 1/2 or 7.

I own the Buck boot by Steve Madden in Dark Brown. They are very comfy and a great price. Nice quality as well. I wear them with almost everything these days.

i definitely like the frye boots. I'm on a brown boot hunt myself, so I'll be interested to see what you dig up. Have you seen the Pretty Please boots and Hewn Earth boots over at Anthropologie? I only wish the first were taller and the second were less expensive!

jenny gordy said...

emily,
i've been obsessed with the hewn earth boots at anthro for awhile now! SO expensive. i always try to think of ways to justify it, and i can't. i like the pretty please boots too, but i'm not totally sure about the color.

emily said...

i hear you. dark brown boots are more versatile and that pretty please color brown can be like a neon sign on your feet. I've been thinking about that too. I like the Frye Bonnie riding boot, but it looks like they fake aged the color, and I don't think I like that. Hm... maybe you could ask for some of the money for the hewn earth boots for xmas and foot the rest of the bill yourself? (i do that sometimes... sneaky)

Katherine said...

thanks, jenny! i will definitely not order them then. studying them in the photo i wondered if they were a bit stiff, and if they are cheap looking then i would not be happy, either.

i have those frye paige boots (from last year), wear them with short skirts, jeans, and leggings, and love them to death. they definitely slouch a little after a while, but i think they're gorgeous and perfect for me.

jenny gordy said...

erica,

i remembered you having them, and i really liked them on you. but i think i just need to try them on in person.

: )

i saw a girl at anthropologie in atlanta wearing the frye boots and i've been in love with them ever since! i think that heather is right when she says that maybe they work better on a tall-ish person, since they're not as fitted to the leg. can't wait to find out the results of the hunt!

[Tara] said...

These are both lovely -- did you get some?

I've been on the hunt for the perfect tall black boot for weeks, and I tried the Paige boots, but was disappointed to find that the shaft flares out at the top in a very unflattering way, at least on me--if you're taller (I'm 5'4"), maybe you'll have better luck with them. Next on my list to try is the Corso Como Sandra boots...

These boots, on sale at Anthropologie, remind me of the Faryl Robins...another possible option in the quest for perfect brown boots:
