Joe and I just got back from California, where we spent a couple of days in L.A. and then the rest of the time at the
Coachella music festival. Wow. What a fun vacation. Seriously. Almost too fun, because now that I'm back I have a cold. Blah. We accompanied Joe's brother Kris and his wife Julie, and since they are in the music industry we got free VIP tickets and lodging and everything. I asked Joe, "What qualifies us to be
VIP's?" And he said, "Because although we ourselves are not cool, we know people who know cool people."
Haha, so true. We got to see one of my favorite bands, Fleet Foxes (and we noticed Jake
Gyllenhaal, Reese
Witherspoon, and Busy Phillips at that concert). I also saw
Morrissey play for the first time, although he freaked out halfway through because he smelled "animal flesh burning". Besides watching music, we spent our days goofing off by the pool, drinking cocktails, and reading. It was very restorative. Just what I needed to gear myself up for apartment hunting in NYC next week.

Poor Morissey. (Poorrissey?)
Dan has a show in LA this summer and I'm trying to decide if I want to tag along. I've never been.
I'm keeping an ear to the ground about NYC apartments. Naturally, I feel you should end up in my neighborhood. :)
What a wonderful vacation!
Good luck apartment hunting, can't wait to hear about your adventures.
You have good luck..CALIFORNIA! I want go...
regards
if 'animal flesh burning' means in-n-out, count me in! we're going to LA in may, i can't wait to gorge myself on their ice cream shakes and fries.
you look like you fit right in with your sandals and sunglasses! god i miss home.
Looks like you had a nice experience here in California! Fun, sun and In -n- Out (my personal fave is the Grilled Cheese Animal Style).
Did you get to see any of Joshua Tree National Park?
I'm too old for Coachella (too too many people... I like my desert trips to be quiet)- but it sounds like you had a blast.
xo
No visit to Cali is complete with out some In and Out.
How'd you like the weather? It's always that way for Coachella. So bizarre. Now it's overcast and in the low 70's.
And to think Coachella is virtually in our back yard and we have never gone. Ahh.. someday we will have to funds for that fun stuff.
Yummy In and Out and awesome VIPs! Sounds like it was a fab vacation. Anytime you can goof around by the pool, drink cocktails and read is a good time by my estimation!
Sounds wonderful, I've always wanted to go to Coachella. Fleet Foxes are incredible live. One of the few bands for which that is true.
you saw fleet foxes?!! i am incredibly jealous. (ha! funny, "tiger mountain peasant song" just came on...)
isn't it funny how you sort of need a vacation after a vacation? good luck finding an apartment in NY!
Lucky, Jenny.
I would love to go to Coachella some time (I would love to go to California some time...)
That hotel looks so glam, you must have felt like a movie star.
Fleet Foxes are amazing. When they played here in NZ in January, Robin Pecknold's acoustic vocal solos were incredible. I wished the gig was longer, but I guess they don't yet have too many songs!
Happy you had such a cool holiday.
that sounds a pretty classy Coachella experience. definitely not what i'm used to hearing from people who've gone!
and those feet shots look like they're straight out of a sandal catalog. a sandals-i-want catalog.
love fleet foxes!
Whoooa, jealous! Looks like you guys had a lot of fun.
Also, is that wall of plates from a top design challenge? It looks really familiar.
I like my sister & her husband's venues. Less people, quiter. Coachella would be too much for an old 33 year old like myself - ok, I'm young, but I feel like an old soul most of the time. I'm glad there are lots of people in the world, like you, who can put themselves out there and attend these events!
Nice pictures! I like what I've heard of Fleet Foxes, and fun comment on Morrisey, ha, ha... I've ordered Stitch magazine so I can make your tulip skirt! So many nice pictures of it on Flickr (nicer than the one in the mag).
I love these photos. They're so glamorous! Fortunately this is supposed to be a good time for apartment hunting- rents are coming down and there's bargaining to be done. Best of luck!
oh fleet foxes! lucky.
morrissey sounds hilarious--like a parody of himself. poor guy.
good luck with the apartment search! how exciting
You always take such lovely pictures! Did you drop by Sprinkles for cupcakes? That's going to be the first place I go when I visit LA =)
i'm a silent follower, but you're post reminded me of your upcoming departure. and as a fellow kansas citian who loves to be creative and loves your blog-kansas city will feel a little less creative when you're gone. but brooklyn rocks!!! (i used to live there, too!)
i'm in love with your pics!
Your abundantly clear love of life has inspired me to get off my duff and DO something unexpected and inspired. I wonder if you realize what an inspiration your posts are. I'll wager you don't. Thank you, Jenny, and good good luck with that apartment hunt.
You've got to love Morrissey and his teenage approach to vegetarianism.
that's the best answer: Because although we ourselves are not cool, we know people who know cool people!!! But honestly, you and your husband are very cool :)
You stayed at the prettiest hotel ever. And Fleet Foxes...wow!
I hope that you will find your dream apartment (well, you also have to be realistic!) soon. Take care!
Bwawahahaha, Morrissey!
That does look like a stellar vacation. I bought some of those grey blue Birkies, I hope I can keep them that clean, they're perfect.
jenny...most importantly, what sandals are you wearing? they are super cute!
lovely vacation photos! and i love that you shot your Birks 'on location' - the colors are gorgeous :)
I've never been to Coachella & am seriously envying you got to go under such great circumstances.
Love the pics, especially that wall of plates.
