black jeans please

photo found here

I've been dying to get some new black jeans since I got rid of my old ones (too small). I want ones that are skinny fit, a tiny bit too long at the ankles so they're slightly scrunchy, and medium rise (not too low--no muffin top for me). Does anyone have a great pair? I've stopped short of asking strangers in the street where they got their jeans. I thought about getting a pair of Acne's from Totokaelo, but I heard the waist on those is super tight. Does anyone have these or these? What do you think?

honestly, for a mid-rise pair of skinny jeans, i've had very good luck with american apparel's jeans. the only problem here (other than their price) is that their normal pair of jeans only comes in "Almost black" but if you want it jet black, they have a lighter weight pair too.

I have a pair of jbrand jeans that fits that description perfectly. The other great place to try, interestingly, is Topshop. Neither are cheap, but both are worth it.

i've been really, really happy with my cheap mondays. i wear them basically every day and it's been about 6 months and they are still in perfect condition and haven't really stretched out. i tried on a few pairs of acnes and also some by denim and thread this past weekend.. but i still prefer the cheap mondays!

I got a rather nice pair at H&M. They were around 20 dollars.

From Ally: I love the J Brand pencil or cigarette skinnies (depending on which level of taper suits you better). I'm curvy, and they're the only skinnies that have a sort of Spanx-ian effect, smoothing out the hips for an optimum skinny look. Plus they're just the right amount of stretch so that they're super comfortable but have structure (i.e. don't cling where they shouldn't). I couldn't get my hands on a 10" leg opening, so I bough the 12" and took them in myself. customized-style -- in 2 colors. Highly recommend. [For a more straight-leg classic denim weight , rather than denim leggings-style fit, there's also Paige Premium Denim Blue Heights. Also super flattering.)

Topshop Topshop Topshop. I have some medium rise skinny black jeans from there and they have the perfect leg and look great with heels all dressed up and fab with flats during the day or for a more laid back look!

I second Madewell. I'm really loving their jeans.

I LOVE my Uniqlo skinny fit jeans... Last time I was there, they had a HUGE display of them on sale for $30 or $40 to the left of the downstairs register line...

I forgot to mention- the new 3d something ones have WAY too low of a waist, so stay away from those! The regular "skinny tapered" or whatever they're called are perfect. They hem for free, if you need them shortened (like me!) but they're probably just right for what you've described.

I have a pair of AG stilt cigarette jeans that I love. The material is soft and very stretchy (very comfortable), so it feels almost as if I am wearing leggings, but they're thicker of course. I am 5'6" and the length of the leg is perfect (slightly long for that scrunchy look). You can get them at Revolve or the AG website. You can also try them on at the AG store in Soho.

a couple of these have already been mentioned but i also have a pair of h&m squin jeans in black. low cost and surprisingly good fit.

the toothpick fit from jcrew is great. i have the cropped/ankle ones in the dark wash and they are a perfect length for my short legs, but im sure the regular length ones would have the scrunch you are looking for. they have the perfect amount of stretch so they are super comfy.

ive also has great experience with jbrand. i dont know how they do it but their jeans make anyones butt look fantastic.

Hello!
I would have to agree with the other ladies mentioning Topshop. They somehow make my butt look pretty good...hah!

Hii! I have a pair of Acne Hep jeans in grey that fit wonderfully. I bought them in a size smaller than the one that fit me at the time, but they have stretched out perfectly and are not too tight!

I really love Cheap Mondays too and they're a great price! I don't feel too guilty if I treat them bad.

i have the acne hep, but haven't worn them much b/c they *are* quite snug around the hips. they legs are skinny and straight, and don't taper too much. with a 34" inseam, they bag quite a bit at my ankles, but perhaps you have longer legs?

other skinnies i really like are the skinny straights from uniqlo, joe's cigarettes (again, not legging-skinny, and comfortably low-rise), and madewell skinny lows... you might want to check the clothing line for their next jcrew sample sale, since they usually sell madewell at the same time.

good luck!

I've had a good experience with JBRAND as well. We sell them at the boutique I buy for and they have been doing really well. Ive also found Rich and Skinny (I hate the name, but love the jean!) to have some great skinnies with mid rise fits.

one thing about skinnies is that unless they have a tight-ish waist (or you have your belt r tight), because of the fit on the leg, the crutch rides down easily (think Russell Brand)...which you may or may not find annoying.
skinnies are definitely v flattering ;o)

JBrand! I have had mine for almost three years now and still wear them all the time!

Yep, I'd go with J Brand black ones. The denim is super soft and just so clean looking.
The acnes are good... but yes, there is muffin top action with both the hep and hex, i found. I need slimmer through the thigh (i have chicken legs). I found that Acne fit well in that region, but the waist was way too tight-- if I went up a size the thigh is too baggy.
J Brand, you size down in, too... so it kind of makes you feel good. They stretch out a lot. I don't get muffin toppage in J Brand since they stretch softy, instead of cutting in the "spare tire".

The EXACT ones I have are J Brand 924 in Jet. I'm 5"6 and they have some bunching at the bottom... not out of control, but just enough. Like the models in the pic.

Have you tried American Apparel? They come in all different colors (I assume black as well) and they are definitely a little scrunchy at the bottom. I've heard Uniqlo as well...

built by wendy! i love their jeans.

Madewell's Skinny Low (I didn't find them to be super low). I just recently purchased a pair in a deep midnight blue/black. At the shop girl's suggestion,I bought them longer than I'd normally wear, so they scrunch up nicely at the bottom of the legs.
I refuse to pay over $100 for a pair of jeans, so these fit the bill nicely.

I second the Uniqlo comment. I just bought a pair of their black jeans. They are affordable, have a higher rise, and have some lycra in them to make them super-comfy. Plus, they come in a nice dark black shade with yellow stitching or black stitching

A.P.C. New Standards in black? Do the New Cures (or similar skinnier cuts) run in black anymore?

The best (and only) pair of black jeans I ever bought cost me £8 from Primark. They're ace.

i'm with some of the commenters = uniqlo skinny jeans are really great. i have a pair in black and the cotton has just enough give but feels great after 2 years of washing and wearing.

I generally get my jeans from Uniqlo but, you should try Oak or Opening Ceremony.

I agree with Patricia above. I'd definitely give AG jeans a try. They have the most fabulous fit at the waist and quality.

I echo all the J Brand love. My pair has held up well for more than 3 years. My favorite black jeans, though, are from the Gap, which cost me $19.99. But the J Brands do that nice stacking thing at the ankle much better.

I am going to add my vote for the J Brand skinny fit jeans...I never had skinny jeans before these and they are great. I do not have super skinny legs and I still feel comfortable in them! Can't wait to see the new haircut!

i looooove jbrand as well... i'm very thin, but have curvy hips and they fit perfectly. definitely not too low of a waist, and slightly stretchy. i prefer the cigarette leg. expensive, though. h&m might be a good choice if you don't want to spend a lot. i've been happy with their jeans, too.

my favorite jeans brand is obey. they are a really good medium rise and they cover my round butt. i have a black pair and a couple of grey pairs. one of them is a 'low' rise but they still have enough bum room.

BIG fan of the 1969 Always Skinny at Gap. They fit wonderfully. I usually buy Joe's Jeans, and wasn't sure about the 1969 jeans... but they are great. No muffin top. They stretch out a little... (but not too much). All the best in your search!
