bodkin + ankle boots for fall

photos from the Bodkin website

I love these photos from Bodkin's fall collection. The colors are beautiful. You know what's cool? The fact that the scarf in the third photo was dyed with only vegetables, fruits, and plants to achieve the most perfect shade of purple. (Read the description at the bottom of the photo for details.) And I love that all the fabrics in Eviana Hartman's clothing line are organic and sustainable, and not in a trendy, gimmicky way. Her blog details her search for ecologically friendly means of production, so you know it's for real. (Sometimes I get the feeling that some companies slap the word "organic" on products without even really investigating the source.)

I think these are the clog ankle boots that the models are wearing in the Bodkin fall look book. I've been searching high and low for the perfect high-heeled ankle boots for fall. These are really cute, but I'm not sure they're it.

I found some other clog ankle boots on the Urban outfitters website that I like even better. They're Swedish Hasbeens. So cool, right? I love them in both colors.

Now these Rachel Comey Penpal short boots would be the perfect ankle boots for me, but I'd really rather have them in black. I can't find them in black anywhere. But then again, it is only August. I guess I'm just anxious.

These black ankle boots are pretty sexy. I like the shape, but I can't decide whether they might be too rock 'n roll for me. Also I was really hoping for an ankle boot with a stacked wood heel.

Buying any of these boots would be an investment, which is why I have to make sure I get something that will last me for years. If money was no object I would probably get the Rachel Comey boots in black and the tan Hasbeens, so that I would have one dressy pair and one casual pair. Keep dreaming.

Man, I'm dreaming about ankle boots too! When I saw those swedish hasbeens I fell off my chair. But $400? barf. I actually have a similar pair I got last year at Aldo that I love, but they're dark brown and I kind of am not into that color anymore (I know, I'm in highschool) hoping they sell them again this year and I'll get them in black this time, they were like...$120 I think? Super comfy too.

girliest comment ever.

Kate, I'm so high school too, and I LOVE girly comments! Seriously, shoes, hair? Bring it on. I remember your Aldo ones--those are really cute. But I always get sick of whatever I had last season too. I'm hoping that if I buy a really nice pair of boots this year then I won't get sick of them, and I'll wear them for years. Instead of wasting money on cheap, crappy boots every season.

love the sexy books -- and love the cream dress, too. so pretty (and i like that it's so short)

I love what you said about the organic label being "gimmicky" or trendy...too often it feels just like another ploy to get people to buy a product, so it's great to hear about a line like Bodkin where the organic label feels real and researched!

Plus, it doesn't hurt that the clothes are gorgeous to boot.

Loooooooove.
Jenny, these are all for me, seriously!! I became obsessed with the Rachel Comey ones last year and got them in gray. They're so worn out I took them to the tailor to be resoled and weather proofed so I can wear them out again! I love the clog boots too. Why did you post this? I'm supposed to be buying diapers and stuff!

just checked the site where I got mine and the black ones are gone....but here's the site for your reference. XOXO.

the hasbeens and comeys are so great! and if you want to try some on, the top pair are from no. 6, which has a store in little italy. i've never been to the store, but i've been lusting after those shoes for a year! they make gorgeous knee-high clog boots, too, and according to their website they also carry bodkin.

1st Bodkin Dress. So amazing.
I love that you post about this stuff, Jenny. It's fun!
Love all your boot choices (especially the Hasbeens), and you could absolutely pull off the last pair...they would look Parisian on you, not rocker-y.
But my favorite little black boot for fall is from J. Crew.

Very simple.I love their shoes. They are good quality and fit me right off the bat. No breaking- in required.

that list of natural dyes for the first dress is amazing. i just learned to do natural dyeing, but this inspires me to do some serious experimenting.

I'm currently drooling over the Humanoid lookbook that arrived in the shop where I work a couple days ago. The ankle boots in it are gorgeous. They're at the top of my shopping list.

I've never commented on your blog before though I read it from time to time -- your taste is so lovely!! So I just want to mention that, having lived in NYC for almost 8 years, last year was my first winter wherein I had the perfect boots on at all times. The No. 6 clog boots (I bought them in black last fall) a) get more compliments than ANYTHING else I own, b) go w/ everything, c) are waterproof and have good traction for snow, sleet, etc., and d) are comfortable, esp w/ woolly socks. And wow, e) put me up a few inches (I'm petite, so I look for this in my shoes -- but in a winter boot, wow).

Sorry to sound so dreamy!! But I highly recommend the investment. Also pining for the Comey ankle boot for fall...

best,
Corina

i just spied those UO boots yesterday and was immediately smitten, not however by its price. why is everything that i love so unreasonably costly?

A webshop called Domahoka has the Rachel Comey ankle boots in a beautiful navy and in the tan color: http://www.domahoka.com

Oh I'm just laughing. I was hunting for Chie Mihara shoes on sale the other day and somehow came across Hasbeens and was trying to figure out who ships them to the US (the Swedish site does not, from what I can tell.) If only I'd known Urban Outfitters has them!

and my dream ankle boots would be by isabel marant.

jenny gordy said...

yeah, i love the isabel marant ankle boots too, but they are a little less affordable than the rachel comey ones.

romaine said...

just in case you are a size 10 -Yoox has isabel marant black ankle boots with stacked wood heels.

i am on the look-out for ankle boots too, but flat ones.

erica said...

hah, i know! when i was in paris, i tried to convince myself that they were affordable. alas, the exchange rate killed the deal.

i love the rachel comey boots in navy at domahoka, such a nice compromise between black and brown.

i can't tell if my legs would look terrible in ankle boots, though. it's a tough call to make.

jenny gordy said...

i know, erica! i worry about my legs looking good in them too. some can be unflattering. i think i just need to try some on in person.

jenny have you seen these?
