red lipstick is a-ok

Inspired by a major fall trend, I took the plunge last week and bought my first red lipstick ever.  I'll admit that I was scared.  Some of my major fears about wearing bold lipstick are:

1) Having lipstick on my teeth.  Ew.
2) Being the crazy lady on the subway with smeared red lipstick.  I'd rather be known as crazy for other reasons, ha ha, like singing "Afternoon Delight" out loud in public.
3) Leaving lipstick marks on the cup I'm drinking out of.  There's a reason I don't share drinks with my mom though I love her dearly.

That said, red lipstick just looks too cool not to try.  Thanks a bunch for all your suggestions!  After testing out as many as I could find at Sephora and Bloomingdale's, I ended up buying Bobbi Brown Lip Color in Red.  Chili by MAC was a close second, and I had such a hard time deciding.

I too want to try red lipstick but I just look too pasty for that. The colour looks lovely on you :)

i love it, jenny! i'm tempted to try it myself. although i will probably just look like a 13 year old wearing makeup for the first time. haha.

You look hot! (But then you are always pretty...lipstick or no :)

PS. Hopefully we will get to see each other in NYC!

Beautiful! You look like a doll! (And I mean this in the nicest way possible!) The bright red works well for you. I don't think it would look so snazzy against my olive skin.

It looks great with your dark hair and your eyes look really blue in this pic.

i don't even wear foundation or anything, so i'm afraid to take the make-up plunge just so i can wear pretty red lipstick. it is very tempting, though.

the thought of lipstick on a can of soda still makes me shudder.

wow. so pretty. i don't love red lips on everyone but with your dainty features and blue eyes, it looks just right. subtle, not trendy or trying.

It looks great on you! Did you dye your hair as well? I love the dark hair/red lips combo.

so pretty!! i know a lady who has the bare face/red lipstick combo NAILED and it has been inspiring me to try it, too.

you wear it well!

wow, that color is super flattering on you, it really brings out the blue in your eyes, beautiful.

that's a great shade and it really works with your skin tone! i find that the toughest thing with red lipstick is to find the tone that really suits you.
i read on a blog that if you lick the edge of the glass before you drink, it won't leave a stain.

A Cup of Jo has a good tip on how to keep your lipstick off your glass- lick the edge of the cup before you sip!

Good luck :)

I wore this in high school, but damn girl... you are pulling it off better then I ever did! You look hot!

The lip colour is gorgeous, looks like blue toned suits you.

I love seeing it on other women, but I kiss Audrey far too much(aww) and have my hands on my face (ew) far too often so I just don't think I could make it work without looking like Lucy when she has raided my makeup stash.

And lipstick on teacups is something thay makes me ashamed of being a woman. The amount of times I have taken a 'clean' glass at a cafe to find remnants of lipstick...

It looks great on you and really makes your eyes shine! I have bought red lipstick too many times, but i've been too nervous to leave the house with it on (i'm a chicken) for fear i'm be one of those half-lipstick-wearing ladies. you've inspired me to buck it up and try again!

I too am trying out bold lipstick lately, although i lean more towards the coral/orange because it works better with my coloring. Makes me think of fantastic women like katherine hepburn...very natural looking but would throw on that lipstick and look chic!

I'm always nervous about red as well, but I have to say it looks great on you!

I heard a tip recently that said if you don't want to leave a lipstick smudge on your wine glass, lick the rim really quickly before drinking it and you won't. It's a good, though potentially difficult tip where being discreet is regarded.

Nonetheless, you look adorable.

oh I am too scared to wear anything on my lips that is bolder than tinted lip balm, so I am definitely too scared to wear red lipstick. but that looks amazing on you! the colour is great.

I´m actually trying with red lipstick too. I cut my hair like a punk boy, and the red color makes me more feminin (and also a little crazy too)

Such a good red - you look lovely... it was actually the "afternoon delight" that made me want to leave a comment though, you do that too?! :)

you look great! i think red lipstick is one of those things that, when not abused, are every bit as simple and chic as levis, white tees and a great pair of ballet flats.

this is so great! I JUST started wearing red lipstick a few days ago! it is almost the same color, different brand. i also have the fear of being on the subway or sidewalk with no one around me to tell me it's been smudged halfway down my chin!

it looks lovely in your photograph!

that shade looks perfect on you!

i love that color on you. the comments about licking glass b/f drinking are spot-on, but my warped sense of humor sees an SNL skit. is there a fragrance to match the lipstick? i am looking.

How did the lipstick rubbing off on glasses work out? Does it really?

Jenny! I just found you via Cup of Jo and you are stunning. That shade of red looks beautiful on you. You look like some glamorous movie star from a bygone era.

P.S. Bobbi Brown should be paying you big bucks because...I am totally going to buy that lipstick now (and I bet a lot of your other commenters will too). ;)

I love red lips (on other gals). For some reason when I put it just doesn't look right. Cute blog! Just discovered it.

You have the perfect colouring to carry off red lipstick beautifully. I'm surprised it's not the only colour you wear, it looks so good. I bet you get lots of compliments when wearing it out and about.

Red lipstick is my colour of choice - I think it compliments us blue-eyed girls. My fave at the moment is Aventure by Chanel - also a good blue-red.

you're lovely! the lighting in your photos is perfect. what model Nikon do you use? I just purchased a D60 and am having trouble getting the light just right! But anyway, everything is simply beautiful!

I just assumed you always wore bright red lipstick (first time visitor to your site) from your pictures on here. It really suits you. Bright red liptwig is the bomb. p.s. LOVE your necklaces.
