the magical thrift store
Any visit to see Elly wouldn't be complete without a trip to the magical thrift store. If you follow Elly's blog, chances are that you know what I'm talking about already. The magical thrift store is a secret place in Elly's neighborhood that abounds with treasures so dirt cheap that you won't believe your good luck. Some of it is even free. I don't know of anywhere else you could score a whole set of Herman Miller dining chairs for fifteen bucks or get the perfect plaid flannel shirt for free. Just when I was starting to doubt that this fairytale place even existed, Elly let me in on the secret last week and led me there blindfolded (just kidding about the blindfold). I was on the hunt for dishes, and I ended up buying everything pictured above plus more (minus the cupcake) for four bucks. Four bucks. I think the last thing I spent four bucks on was a MetroCard.
I've been searching thrift stores for awhile now, looking for some new dishes. The patterns on these remind me of the delicate floral trim on Elly's beautiful new dress design.

I have a thrift store like that near where I work. I always find amazing things. I go at least twice a week, but I had to put myself on a weekly thrifting budget b/c I was going a little nuts.
I still think about the Herman Miller dining chairs whenever I'm at a thrift store... I soooo want to have that kind of luck. And that cupcake. I also want that.
Oh I'm so jealous. What a beautiful selection. Thrift stores in Germany/Berlin are the pits... everything is way too expensive. I miss the good old days of even slightly expensive thrift stores in Canada. I guess I can always live vicariously through all the bloggers out there!
i've had similar luck at st. vincent de paul, but haven't been there since the flooding last summer. i might have to go back soon, though!
Oh! I need this thrift store in my life.

holy crap. you found shangri-la.
What a beautiful selection :) I love great thrift store days where you find exactly what you didn't know you were looking for. Oh, and I have that very same plate that your cupcake is sitting on!
Wow. That white dish with the robin's egg blue edging and flowers is the same as this entire set i got passed down to me from my grandmother( http://bit.ly/19YVRz ). I can't believe i randomly stumbled upon it on your blog today. It made me smile!

so pretty! and so nice to meet you tonight for just a moment! :)
so sweet, i have a secret thrift store too! i just took my friend who was visiting from brooklyn and he had a similar experience, couldn't believe the cheap prices. i love the flower mug!
That's what we all get for living in cities! Overpriced and picked over. Not only is everything pictured beautiful, but that cupcake looks too delicious!
jackpot! I especially love the bowl (and the cupcake looks delicious, too)...the last thing I spent $4 on was a gallon of milk at rite aid : (
Great finds! Man, I love thrift stores. I'm pretty lucky we have a bunch in my small city. I would die if I found some Herman Miller chairs for that price. Lucky girl that Elly!
Ps. You look stunning in the sublet photo shoot!
wow they are amazing finds. charity shops here have become so expensive lately!
omg, i have a set of that plate in the front right. i also found them in a thrift store years and years ago for next to nothing and they are my favourite plates! On the bottom they say 'Oxford made in Brazil', right?
oh wow that is magical! : )
