christmas ornament ideas

all photos from Superbuzzy

This week I'm getting serious about making my Christmas ornaments.  There's not much time left.  I've already set up two craft nights with girlfriends this week so we can get things done.   Here are my ornament ideas, all inspired by these insanely cute Japanese kits from Superbuzzy: felt balls, pompoms, and cross-stitch.  As you know, I've been all about the felt balls lately.  And last night I cross-stitched my first ornament.  I'm going to get really amitious here and say that this week I'll be posting photos and instructions for my ornaments, and maybe you can share your tips as well in the comments section, because all of this is an experiment!

These are great - I love the embroidered mouse. I can't wait to see what you come up with.

(p.s. - It was very nice to meet you the other day.)

What good timing! We put up our tree the other night, only to remember we don't have any ornaments. For some reason it feels weird to buy a bunch in a store..?Anyhow, these look great!

i hope your new felting contraption is working wonders! i haven't cross-stitched in ages, but they definitely make for pretty ornaments.

Jenny, I would love to have instructions for making the felted balls! Do you crochet them or knit them? I am hopeless with a crochet hook, so am crossing my fingers it's the latter. Are you familiar with Subversive Cross Stitch? http://www.subversivecrossstitch.com/The kits make fun gifts and are a tongue firmly in cheek take on traditional cross stitch patterns.

I love handmade christmas ornaments! This year, I have wine corks saved up to make little Tomtens, and I just got tiny pom pom makers so I've been making a bunch, not sure exactly what to do with them... Last year I made a bunch (my rav link) of knitted bears from Little Cotton Rabbit's pattern. She also has a great mini stocking pattern! The year before that I did painted clothespin angel dolls... I've made the mini knitted mittens and last night, I sewed a little felt stuffed robot for an ornament tournament party we were going to and I won! Anyway, have fun making ornaments!!! It's one of the more calming and fun holiday projects, I think (making all my gifts, I've been feeling like a sweatshop these last few weeks! Stressful!)
