I am so obsessed with this outfit. Unfortunately, I don't remember where I got the photo from. (Please tell me if you know, so I can give credit.) My obsession has had me searching high and low for a navy tie dye scarf. I found a couple of options here and here. And these black and white ones are pretty amazing. I just really want to take one of Shabd's classes at Lena's studio though so I can learn to make my own. Although I must admit that I took a dyeing course in college, and I ended up dropping it because I sucked so bad. All of the super experienced hippies were making me look bad, and I couldn't take it. It's probably time I swallow my pride and dive back in.
Edit: Thanks to a few super helpful readers, I figured out where I got the photo. The original source is Altamira NYC, and I saw it on from lara.

Jenny, I just received a Lucky breaks email with a code for 50% off a Cmarchuska hand dyed scarf. It comes in a variety of colors, including navy blue. The code is "luckydaily3" and this is the link: http://www.kaightshop.com/cmtiscin.html
So funny about your tie dying experience in college! "Super experienced hippies"...I can only imagine. We did a tie dying unit in my art class in high school and it was so much fun. My mom still has a batik tie dye print I made hanging in my bedroom at home. It's such a messy process though--probably best left for the classroom and not the home bathtub!
Good luck with your scarf search!
i love the whole look...i love her coat!!!!
Last spring I had the good fortune to find one almost identical to the one pictured at...Forever 21. I don't know if they will have any now, but if you are ok with the quality, then the price is definitely on the cheap.
i love that outfit too! i found it on dress, design, decor. i would love to take a tie dye class too! i'm sure there's a tutorial somehwere on youtube :)
This is my best friend's cousin!! How funny. Unfortunately I do not know where the picture came from but I agree that the outfit is wonderful.

I know what you mean! I have a few too many dyeing disasters lately, but I will try!

code is luckydaily5 - only 22.50 i think with discount. not as as nice as the one in the pic but not bad for 22.50....!!
it reminds me of the shibori you see in japan...
madewell has some tie dye circle scarves right now! i think theyre linen. they come in navy, yellow, black and bright pink. i cant find a photo on the internet, but if you go to the website and check out the lookbook, the girl in look #6 is wearing one in black.
love this look and the scarf...opinion please....if you wore tie dye in the 70s are you too old to do it again? (50+ age) always afraid of looking like a fool! opinion?
I love the bag!

i have a super similar one from club monaco, i couldn't find it on their website but you might be able to find it in the store!
I saw an indigo tie dye kit on sale (no less) at JoAnn Fabric a couple of weeks ago.
thanks, everyone!
sharon, nope, you're never too old. i say go for it! just as long as you keep it muted and classy. i used to wear awful neon tie-dye in college, so i was definitely a little too scarred to wear this trend at first. but a lot of the tie dyes out there right now are much different from the 70's versions.
i'm pretty selective when it comes to tie dye, but this scarf is delightful. love that color :)

ok then...I am so buying one to wear in a "classic" but not old lady-ish way!!! I guess you can take the hippie out of the 70s but you can never take the 70s out of the girl....or something! thanks for your opinion!
That girl sort of reminds me of Scarlett Johanssen (sp?)
Hi Jenny, I found another cheaper alternative
