I signed up for a CSA share for the first time ever this summer, and I'm so excited! Fresh, local, organic fruits and vegetables every week? Yes, please. With my first batch of veggies came garlic scapes, which I'd never had before. They're long, thin, curly, and beautiful. The taste is garlicky yet spicy/mustardy at the same time. Delicious. At the suggestion of my friend Jenny, I used them to make garlic scape pesto to top homemade gnocchi. Yum. I used a variation on Jenny's recipe, which can be found here. Dr. Joe pointed out that green pasta + green pesto + green plates was a little overkill. I guess I needed some green in my life!

I've seen these at my local market for the past couple of weeks and I've been intrigued, but I didn't know what to make with them. I think I'll pick some up today and give this a try! Thanks for sharing!
Yum, I love garlic scape pesto! I get them in my CSA every year and making a huge batch of pesto is the only thing I know to do with them. Did you get a good variety of veggies in your share this week?
wow, your gnocchi look beautiful! I've been really into making pestos lately... spinach pesto, and cilantro pesto mostly. i will definitely try garlic scape when i go to the farmer's market next. yum!
That's one delicious-looking plate. Homemade pesto is the besto.
Yum Yum Garlic scapes! A gal talked me into buying some last year at the local farmers market. I love them just steamed with a little butter. So good!
yay! so happy you got in. are you doing the east williamsburg one? we got squash blossoms this week which I am still trying figure out what to do with.
Ha--when I saw that I'd be getting garlic scapes in my produce bin this week I wondered what the heck I'd do with them. This looks delicious, so problem = solved. Yum!
I just signed up for a CSA for the first time as well, and also got garlic scapes two weeks in a row (I'd never had them before, which is one of the reasons why I wanted to do this). But I'm not sure what to do with all the bok choy...
Sarah Janet - Bok Choy is perfect in any stir fry!
Thanks, J! I still haven't made anything with mine. I'll look for something new... I was even thinking pizza?
thank you for this. I also received garlic scapes in my CSA this week and was trying to remember a pesto recipe I had read last year - and here you are!
I also like them pan fried and added to omelets with dill and feta. yum
thanks for sharing
xo

CSAs are really awesome- I love mine so much. :)
pesto. pasta. gurrrl, of course I agree with your choice of meal here...
This sounds lovely. I, too, have just received the first installment of my first CSA share last Saturday, and it's full of green vegetables (including garlic scapes :) Thank you so much for featuring your friend's blog -- the Adventures in CSA posts are so helpful for inspiration on what to do with all the produce!
My wife and I were just talking about CSA. It seems like such a fun thing to do!
