a lovely necklace

Last week I bought one of Stephanie Renee's hand cast brass necklaces from her Dores Etsy shop.  It's the perfect length for my Mociun tie-front dresses.  What a lovely and delicate piece of jewelry!  The beads have many surfaces for the light to reflect from, which makes them quite shiny and sparkly--click here for a better view.  I also love the long version and this new braided style.  I previously bought these great bracelets from her as well.  I need to stop buying jewelry.  The bracelets are Megan's fault though!

new hat and scarf set

I really needed a scarf and hat to match my new coat, so that's what I worked on while I was sick.  Originally, I made the scarf for my shop, but I loved how it turned out so much that I decided to keep it.  It's such a simple scarf that I just made up the pattern myself.  I wanted the hat to be a different color because I hate matchy-matchy stuff.  When I was in The Yarn Tree for the first time, I found the most beautiful yarn in the world and I fell in love.  It's called Frog Tree Merino Melange.  So soft and wonderful.  The owner gave me a hat pattern that she herself designed specifically for the yarn, and I couldn't have been happier with it.  The instructions were very detailed with no mistakes, and the shape and fit of the hat were perfect.  She has samples of her hats in the store so you can try them on beforehand.  Here's a shot of me wearing the hat with my coat.

I have instructions and yarn info for the scarf here.  For hat pattern, inquire at info@theyarntree.com.

new boots

Sophia would not let me take a picture of these without her!  Apparently she's in love with my new boots.  Or maybe it's just infatuation.  Whatever, I hope they'll be very happy together.  I first saw this style in the magical thrift store in Montana with Elly, but they were pretty beat up and too small for me.  Afterward I spent months searching for "vintage Laredo lace up boots" on eBay.  Finally I found some, and they're almost perfect.  My only complaint is that the toe is super narrow, so maybe I should have gone up half a size.  They're fine with tights, but if I wear thick socks I'll be in pain!

I just couldn't leave out this photo of Sophia caressing them with her head.

new for me, for you

photos by Kate Miss

Kate has some new necklace styles that she's updating her shop with tonight (Monday, 1/25) at 8PM EST.  I already own this one and this one and wear them all the time.  I love the colors of the new overdyed thread she's working with.  Very cool.  I'm hoping to get my hands on one of the pieces pictured above.

bauhaus

Joe and I went to go see the Bauhaus exibit at the MoMA on Friday evening, and it was really fun.  Even though their free Friday nights are sooooo crowded, it was still amazing.  I got to see some of the most wonderful textiles (a few of the woven pieces are pictured above), prints, furniture, and everyday objects.  It's stuff like this that makes me feel so lucky to live in New York.  I was definitely inspired, and I really want to get this book so I can learn about Bauhaus in more depth.  The exibit is still up for two more days, until January 25.

duffel coats

Okay, back to posting about winter stuff again because let's face it, it's cold out there.  I've always loved duffel coats--they're just so collegiate and classic.  I grew up going to private school, and I do believe that no one will ever be able to take the prep out of me.  Not to mention that lately I've been going through a phase of obsession with NYC Prep, Gossip Girl, and Gilmore Girls.  I found the above photo of Alexa Chung wearing a Gloverall duffel on the whowhatweardaily website, and I think the whole look is adorable.  All of the coats pictured above are from Gloverall, and I spied the bottom ones on Commas and Clauses.

The new spring stuff from A.P.C. is here.  I'm not so into the jumpsuits and disco stuff, but there are some really cute basics.

chasing away some winter blues

photo from www.shabdismyname.com

I've been a very, very bad blogger!  I'm sorry.  For some reason I don't transition well from vacation and then back to blogging.  I think this time it partly has to do with the fact that I've got a little bit of the winter blues.  No more holidays or vacations on the horizon.  (Valentine's Day is nothing compared to Thanksgiving and Christmas in my opinion.)  I get very lazy and wimpy in the winter and end up just sort of hibernating.  Really all I want to do is curl up on the couch and knit.  I need to take photos soon of all the things I've been making, but I'll do it later....

In the meantime, what better way to chase away the the winter blues than to talk about shopping sales?  Everything in the Mociun online store is 20-80% off now!  Woohoo!  I just bought this dress, which I've been waiting very patiently for.  What I love about Caitlin's dresses is that you can wear them year round, so you really get your money's worth.  This will be my third tie-front dress.  What can I say?  I'm stocking up because I heard a rumor that she's discontinuing that style.

Also, Shabd Simon-Alexander and Caitlin Mociun have come out with a collaboration!  It's a Mociun bikini with Shabd's signature tie-dye print.  So cute.  It's already on sale, and if you pre-order by January 25, you get 30% off.  Word.

Also, one more thing.  I went to Madewell on Broadway the other day and bought a pair of their boyfriend jeans for $22 freaking dollars!  They're so comfortable and will be perfect for working in.  There's a table upstairs at the back full of sale jeans.  Liz, one of my blog readers, was working there and said hi.  Sweet.

a new year

I hope everyone had a fabulous holiday time.  I enjoyed the sun in Mexico and then got snowed in in Kansas, all within the same week!  It was great though.  But when Joe and I finally got back to Brooklyn, I didn't get to attend any New Year's Eve parties because I came down with the flu.  I had planned on being back to work and blogging last week, but I was sick for the whole first week of the year.  Blerg.  At least I got a lot of knitting done!  Photos soon to come...
