I don't know if you remember this yarn I bought way back when, but it's finally been made into socks!  Just in time for the summer heat, oops.  Well maybe it'll give me a reason to look forward to winter, right?  I've scrapped the traditional sock pattern that I usually use in favor of following this awesome technique for the heel and toe.  I'm still doing top down on double pointed needles, and then after I do the toe I graft the sock together at the top of the foot.  These are constructed much like commercial socks that you buy at the store.  They're so much more comfortable to me than what I was doing before.  After my first pair using my new pattern, I changed it again by making the toe a little wider.  The knitting process is so stimulating for me--skills are always evolving and new things being learned by trial and error.

those are crazy cute. I wear wool in summer a lot! camping, cool evenings, first thing in the morning... I am seriously contemplating making some myself after seeing yours. but I would need a serious lesson or two...

These socks are super cute! Love them!
I used to make socks at school when I was fifteen, sadly I have forgotten how to make them. But looking at your photos makes me want to start knitting them again!

those are amazing! i honestly can't believe how tight the stitches look (are they stitches? i'm useless with knitting terminology)...they look perfect for late summer/early fall outfits (or camping, as someone mentioned above).

i love it. your socks look gorgeous. you will be so happy to pull them out when fall begins, no? i'm making yellow alpaca socks, so that's what i'm telling myself, anyway. x, elena

i hear you - i've been knitting socks all summer which seems silly to everyone, but truthfully, i'm actually wearing them in this cool East Bay California weather :)

I love how they turned out, and how they look with your awesome shoes. Especially the Koigu ones.

And I will definitely check out this technique, as I haven't tried it before.

Not only are these super rad, I also love seeing how the yarn knits up. It's hard to imagine when you're looking at those koigu skeins how it's going to turn out!

oh my GOD, for some reason i had not tried the hasbeens with knit socks. so cute! hehe, just finishing my possum sweater...spring knitting is always my favourite, though.

that looks like a great heel, i'll have to give it a try. i'm attempting toe-up socks this time, probably won't do it again.

i just found a few pairs of socks i knit last winter the other day and got really excited to wear them again. (so dorky, i know.)

i really like your socks with both pairs of shoes. where are your boots from?

they look awesome and super comfy. the grey/rainbow ones are especially nice.

I always really like your socks - I don't think I can even choose a favourite between these two.
I'm wondering, though, because I think that the short row heel is considered to be vertically symmetrical - it shouldn't matter if you knit toe up or cuff down: does this sound right?
