lissa's visit

My former intern Lissa came to visit me over the summer.  She's so lovely, why did I only take photos of her back?  While Joe was away in Seattle to climb Mt. Rainier, I picked Lissa up from the airport in Chicago.  After a trip to the beach and to Ikea, I drove her back to my house in Iowa.  We spent about ten days working really hard, but our time was punctuated with cooking meals, enjoying great conversation, watching old movies, knitting, hiking, shopping at the farmer's market, drinking beers at a brewery, and seeing a play.  I love how having company can make you a tourist in your own town.

Lissa does patternmaking for a clothing company now, but I really wish she lived here and worked for me full time.  This girl is very talented.  While she stayed with me she mainly wore outfits that she made herself, and I was so inspired.  Now that I'm focusing on creating patterns and not sewing a clothing line, my goal is to make most of my own clothes.  I plan on wearing a lot of the sewing pattern garment prototypes.

I'm so excited to read that you're focusing on patterns - even though I already kind of knew that. Will you be releasing patterns from past clothing lines? I always imagine that craftspeople use/wear their own creations a lot, but then I was reading on Bookhou recently that they can't afford to have her husband's furniture! And I guess you've been too busy sewing for your shop to sew for yourself. Glad you'll get to wear your clothes now! Looking forward to seeing them.

Ever since I made a Wiksten tank earlier this year (my first garment ever!), I'm hooked on sewing garments for myself. I have trouble finding patterns that I like with the mainstream pattern makers and I'm not nearly to the point of making my own. I've been hoping that you were still planning the shift to pattern making your designs rock!

You are such an inspiration! Would love to see more as your prototypes progress.

lissa's such a sweetheart! and don't worry about just catching the back of her - these shots are great! very peaceful + relaxed (which is telling of your time together, i think). you guys are so lucky to have had time together to just chill out + enjoy summer. :)

Jenny I'm so excited to hear you are moving into pattern making for sewers. You will make an absolute killing! I myself am always thinking about and sewing towards a very wearable handmade wardrobe and I am ALWAYS looking towards Wiksten for inspiration. Your style is so feminine, clean and understated and really quite amazing. x Sophie
